Our Restaurant

With its Misty, rustic-chic style, The Camden Arms Restaurant has a refreshing simplicity but a serious intent. It’s about eating classically-executed, gastro-style dishes in comfortable and relaxed surroundings. Half-close your eyes and you could be e thousand miles from where you think you are.

Seasonally driven menus - home grown or locally-sourced, wherever possible - offer flavoursome, classics with a contemporary twist. Puddings veer happily towards comfort. Good value for money lunches and dinners  (Main courses £8.00 - £15.00, Starters £4.00 - £8.00), daily specials, vegetarian dishes plus a Sunday Carvey served from noon untill 9pm, offer a choice of three meats and six vegetables (£10.95).

There’s the bar area, the main dining room and the light and leafy Garden Room set aside for dining. The style is unpretentious - the service informal and friendly, the atmosphere is warm, intimate and just the right side of lively. If the weathers nice dine in the garden under the shade of an umbrella, or on the terrace surrounded by our beautifull summer garden.

Breakfast is served from 7am until 10am. Lunch and dinner day every day from noon untill 9pm.

Our cooking is honest and straightforward in style, bold and hearty in flavour. No fussy preparation or pretentious artistry, just thoughtful and skilful use of good, seasonal ingredients. Classic is what describes our dishes, sometimes given a contemporary makeover, and just a little theatre. Often, the simplest dishes are the hardest to get right; to let individual flavours stand up, show off and, ultimately, please the taste-buds.

Great food, believes James Cunningham, comes down to just two things: freshness and flavour. It’s the same whether we’re talking about a fancy cut of meat or a humble potato. Food which hasn’t travelled far, obviously, is the freshest. And homegrown or harvested ‘naturally’ i.e. in tune with normal seasons, has the most flavour. So, our menus here at The Camden Arms are inspired by what’s in season and, as far as possible, we buy from producers close to home.

Our European chefs are open-minded and curious and use lots of styles of cooking. But we like to keep a link with the area - use locally bred lamb, and beef and when possible, line caught fish. Location, after all, is the thing that makes the cooking of different kitchens, different countries, distinctive, exciting and a delicious discovery.

Our award-winning restaurant takes a fresh and contemporary approach to classic dishes and classic combinations. (Having said that, we still like roast beef and Yorkshire pudding for Sunday lunch, and our morning coffee and afternoon tea is properly old-fashioned) We blend a modern approach with International training to create dishes that are light, flavoursome and appealing.
Ingredients are what count - fresh and seasonal, of course - and we use the best we can find, for example we buy our Camembert and Brie cheeses from France, because, we beleive they are the best. On the other hand some of the herbs, fruit and vegetables come from our very own garden.

There’s something here for everyone, from a set-you-up-for-the-day breakfast to a speedy business lunch, Sunday lunch with the family to a foodie-lovers’ tasting menu. There are seasonally changing a la carte and vegetarian menus, as well as a 'Light Bites' Bar menu.

We’re open every day, breakfast through to dinner, to non-residents as well as hotel guests.
